Google, Apollo Join Hands to Introduce AI-Powered Early Disease Screening in India

New Delhi: Google Health has forged a significant collaboration with Apollo Radiology International, aimed at revolutionizing early disease screening in India using artificial intelligence (AI). The announcement was made during the annual event, The Check Up.

In this partnership, Google Health will provide its advanced AI stack for early disease screening to Apollo Radiology International. The focus will be on three major diseases: tuberculosis, lung cancer, and breast cancer.

Shravya Shetty, Principal Engineer at Google Health, emphasized the critical role of radiology expertise in patient outcomes and highlighted the potential of AI to address the shortage of radiologists. The collaboration aims to deliver faster disease screening across India, with Apollo Radiology International committed to providing three million free screenings over the next decade.

The decision to target tuberculosis, lung cancer, and breast cancer was based on the significant impact of these diseases in India. With over 1.3 million deaths from tuberculosis worldwide and high mortality rates from lung and breast cancer in India, early detection is crucial for improving survival rates.

The primary challenge in India lies in the shortage of trained radiologists, leading to delays in early detection. AI-powered screening systems developed through this collaboration aim to overcome this challenge by detecting diseases at scale.
