Union Ministry of Coal Signs Agreements for 3 Coal Mines in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Union Ministry of Coal on Monday successfully finalized Coal Mining Development and Production Agreements for three coal mines in Odisha, marking a pivotal achievement in the commercial coal mining sector. This development follows the second attempt of the 7th auction round.

The mines involved in this agreement are the Machhakata (Revised) coal mine, Kudanali Lubri coal mine, and Sakhigopal-B Kakurhi coal mine. Among these, two are partially explored while one is fully explored, according to official reports.

The successful bidders include NLC India Limited, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited, and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited. The anticipated annual revenue from these auctions is approximately ₹2,991.20 crores, based on a combined Peak Rate Capacity of about 30.00 MTPA.

Upon becoming operational, these mines are expected to generate around 40,560 direct and indirect jobs. The total investment to bring these coal mines into production is estimated at ₹4,500 crores.

This initiative is a significant stride toward achieving Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in the coal industry, furthering economic development, job creation, and enhancing the nation’s energy security.
