Sheikh Hasina Lands in India After Resigning as B’desh PM, Likely to Depart for London: Reports

New Delhi: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s military aircraft touched down at Hindon Airbase at 5:36 PM, following her resignation earlier today. Hasina departed Dhaka amid ongoing mass protests and is expected to either travel to Delhi or head to the UK.

The Delhi Police have heightened security around the Bangladesh Embassy in response to the situation. Hasina initially flew from Dhaka to Kurmiltola via helicopter before transferring to an aircraft.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a high alert, with the Director General now in Kolkata.

Addressing the nation, Bangladesh Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman announced the formation of an interim government, promising to restore peace and investigate recent violence.

The announcement follows chaotic scenes in Dhaka, where protesters stormed Hasina’s palace, celebrating by climbing on tanks and vandalising a statue of independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina’s father.
