Bitti Hotra Mohanty Convicted for Raping German Tourist Dies of Cancer in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Bitti Hotra Mohanty, convicted for raping a German tourist in Rajasthan’s Alwar in 2006 passed away in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, sources revealed on Monday.

The son of former Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Bidya Bhusan Mohanty was battling stomach cancer.

According to AIIMS officials, Hotra had been receiving treatment outside the state before being admitted to the hospital around a month and a half ago due to severe bleeding. Despite supportive care, he succumbed to the disease.

The heinous crime that shook the nation occurred in Alwar, Rajasthan, where Hotra was convicted by a fast-track court within just 15 days of his arrest. However, he managed to abscond after jumping parole. His criminal escapade continued until 2013 when Kerala Police apprehended him while he was attempting to secure a bank job using forged documents.
