Maoist Camp Busted in Kandhamal Dist, Explosives Recovered After Gunfight

Kandhamal: A Maoist camp was discovered and several explosive devices were seized by the police following a gunfight with Naxals in a forest in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off about Maoist presence, a police team initiated an operation along the Kandhamal-Kalahandi border in the afternoon. During the operation, the police encountered armed Maoists in tents within a densely forested area under the jurisdiction of Baliguda police station. A gunbattle ensued when the ultras opened fire on the security personnel.

Approximately five armed Naxals were seen fleeing the scene, taking advantage of the thick vegetation and reduced visibility due to rain. Although the Maoists managed to escape, the police successfully dismantled the camp and recovered several items from five large bags. One of the bags contained a detonator and other IED components, while the remaining four bags are yet to be examined, following safety protocols.

The search operation has been intensified in the area after the encounter.
