PM Modi in Ukraine, To meet President Zelenskyy Today

After completing his two-day Poland visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine on Friday.

He is in Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. PM Modi is the first ever Indian Prime Minister to visit Ukraine since it got independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

PM Modi arrived in Kyiv on Friday morning and was welcomed with the chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ by the Indian diaspora.

PM Modi’s visit comes at a time when the West has criticised India’s close ties with Russia.

“I look forward to the opportunity to build upon earlier conversations with President Zelenskyy on strengthening bilateral cooperation and share perspectives on peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict,” PM Modi has said.

PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine comes nearly six weeks after his trip to Moscow and talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine and the West criticised him for meeting President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on the same day a Russian strike hit a children’s hospital in Kyiv, killing dozens.

PM Modi is in Kyiv for around seven hours, during which the prime minister is set to have one-on-one as well as delegation-level talks with Zelenskyy.
