Dozen Houses Torched after Goddess Kali Idol Vandalized at a Temple in Tripura

Agartala: At least a dozen houses and some vehicles were torched by unidentified persons after an idol of Goddess Kali was found defaced at a temple in the Ranirbazar area of West Tripura. .

Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were imposed in the Jirania subdivision following the violence along with deployment of heavy security.

According to reports, around 12 houses were set on fire at Ranirbazar by miscreants on Sunday night after an idol of Goddess Kali was found to be vandalized in Kaiturbari. Some bikes and pickup vans were burnt down. But no humans were injured as the residents escaped seeing the approaching mob.

As precautionary measure, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS have been imposed in the Jirania subdivision of West Tripura district from August 26 to 28. Under the prohibitory orders, assemblies of five or more people will be prohibited.
