Indian Medical Association Revokes Membership of Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh

New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the Kolkata hospital. The disciplinary committee’s decision came after the victim’s parents accused Ghosh of mishandling the situation with a lack of empathy and sensitivity.

The IMA’s suspension order highlighted the concerns raised by its Bengal branch and various doctor associations demanding action against Ghosh. The order stated, “The disciplinary committee of IMA HQs has unanimously decided to suspend you forthwith from the membership of Indian Medical Association.”

Dr Ghosh has been under the scanner since the trainee doctor’s death at RG Kar hospital on August 9. He resigned as principal on August 12 but was controversially appointed principal of another state-run medical college shortly after. This hasty reappointment sparked widespread criticism, leading to the revocation of his new position at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.

Additionally, Ghosh is being investigated for alleged financial irregularities at the state-run health facility.
