3 Cops Including Bharatpur Police Station IIC Transferred Over Alleged Assault On Army Major, His Fiancée

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police transferred the inspector-in-charge of the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar and two other policemen to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the allegation of ‘assault and arrest’ of an Indian Army officer of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancé at the police station.

Through a notification, the Commissionerate Police transferred the Bharatpur police station IIC Dinakrushna Mishra and posted him to the office of DCP, Bhubaneswar. Added to it, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Salilamayee Sahoo was also transferred from the Bharatpur police station to the office of DCP, and Constable Balaram Hansda was transferred to RO Bhubaneswar.

The Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania has already directed for a Crime Branch probe into the allegations.

It is alleged that Major Singh and his fiancée were assaulted by on-duty police officers of the Bharatpur police station while they reached the police station to file a complaint about a road rage incident.

Army Major and his fiancée travelling in a car were stopped and misbehaved by a group of miscreants. When they reached the police station to report the incident, they were allegedly mistreated and assaulted by the police personnel present there instead of being helped.
