Wild Tusker Rescued from Abandoned Well in Kalahandi Dist

Bhawanipatna: Forest officials rescued a wild elephant that had accidentally fallen into an abandoned open well at Jamapada village under the Narla forest range in Kalahandi district.

The distressed tusker was taken out of the well by the forest officials following an hour-long operation.

According to forest officials, this stray wild elephant reached the village in search of food at night and fell into the abandoned 5-foot deep open well.

The villagers found the elephant in the well on Thursday morning and informed the forest department. The forest officials took up the rescue operation with the help of an excavator. A side of the open well was dug up by the excavator to create a slope for the elephant to walk out of the well.

After being out of the well, the wild elephant went into the nearby forest in search of its herd.
