12 Picnickers Killed, 27 injured as Bus Hits Truck in Assam

Guwahati: At least 12 people lost their lives, and 27 others were seriously injured when a bus carrying 45 persons collided with a truck at around 5 am in Assam’s Dergaon on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the victims were part of a team of picnickers. Their bus had a head-on collision with a coal-laden truck coming from Margherita.

The picnic party was on the way to Tinsukia’s Tilinga Mandir and the accident occurred a short distance before their destination.

Local police rushed to the spot to rescue the injured passengers, who were admitted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. The condition of several injured was critical.

Bodies of at least 12 passengers who died on the spot were taken out from the damaged bus and sent them for post-mortem. Police are investigating the matter.
