Visakhapatnam: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped by 13 persons in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam.
At first, she suffered sexual harassment at the hands of her boyfriend and his associate. Later she was gang-raped by 11 photographers at the RK Beach of Visakhapatnam.
The girl suffered the horrific ordeal on December 17 and 19. The incident came to fore, when a missing complaint was lodged and Andhra police located her in her home in Odisha. She was brought to Visakhapatnam for investigation.
Based on information provided by the victim, Visakhapatnam police arrested 11 accused. Efforts are on to track down two other accused from Jharkhand.
According to police, the victim’s father filed a missing case at the Visakhapatnam Fourth Town police station on December 18. The victim was serving as a maid in a government employee’s house. As the owners were on a holiday tour, the girl was alone at the house, taking care of the owners’ pet.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, on December 17, she went to RK Beach with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend took her to a lodge, where he and his friend raped her.
Shocked by the incident, the girl reached RK beach to end her life. There a beach photographer, promising to help her, took her to a lodge, where he along with his accomplices raped her. She was raped by 13 persons for two days.
The victim managed to escape and reached her native village in Kalahandi in Odisha.
Women’s organisations in Visakhapatnam have demanded stringent punishment for the guilty.
