1st Sunstroke Death in Odisha Reported from Balasore as Heat Wave Sizzles State

Bhubaneswar: The first-ever sunstroke death this year has been reported from Odisha.

According to the information provided by the Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra, one person died of heatstroke in the Balasore district. According to reports, Laxmikanta Sahu aged 62 of Maheshpur under Bhogarai Tahasil died due to sunstroke on April 15, 2024. It was the first sunstroke death during Summer 2024.

Till Friday, 71 persons have been admitted to different hospitals in Odisha after becoming sick due to the severe heat wave continuing throughout the state.

Thirty-five heat wave victims were from Sundargarh district. Seven each from Mayurbhanj and Angul were also admitted to hospitals for treatment after sunstroke.

On Friday, Sundargarh was the hottest place in Odisha at 43.8°C followed by Sambalpur at 42.4°C and Keonjhar and Chandbali at 42.2°C. Bhubaneswar showed 41.4°C at 2.30 pm on Friday.
