242 Foeticides in 3 Months, 2 Doctors Among 9 Arrested for Running Female Foeticide Racket in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Nine persons including two doctors were arrested by Karnataka police for their involvement in a major female foeticide racket. This gang had allegedly conducted 242 foeticides in just three months.

They were involved in illegal sex determination tests and medical termination of female fetuses. A paediatrician and an Ayurveda doctor were the key players of the gang. This gang ran a hospital at Udayagiri in the district headquarters town of Mysuru.

The arrested persons included two doctors, three lab technicians, two brokers, a hospital manager and a receptionist.

It is suspected that, in two years, this gang has illegally terminated over 900 female foetuses. They charged Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for a sex determination test, and an additional Rs 50,000 to terminate the pregnancy if the foetus was female.
