3.8Kg Gold Worth Rs 2.5 Cr Seized at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Income Tax Department seized 3.8 kg gold ornaments at the Bhubaneswar airport. According to reports, the seized gold is worth around Rs 2.5 crore.

The manager of a jewellery shop in Bhubaneswar was detained by the Income Tax Department at the airport in relation to the seizure.

According to sources, later the Income Tax officials also raided the jewellery shop. Initial investigation hinted that the seized gold was being transported to Mumbai. The Income Tax department suspected there may be some hawala transaction linked to this seizure.

On April 17, around one kilogram of gold was seized while it was being smuggled to Bhubaneswar from Bangkok by a man, who had hidden it in his rectum.
