4 Killed, 70 Injured as North East Express Derails in Bihar

Patna: The Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express train derailed in Bihar’s Buxar claiming the lives of at least 4 passengers on Wednesday night. Around 70 others were injured in this accident.

According to railway sources, six coaches of the the 23-coach 12506 North East Express derailed near the Raghunathpur station in Buxar district. The accident took place at nearly 9.53 pm, less than half an hour after the train left the Buxar station and was headed for Ara.

The Railways announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of those killed in the train derailment. The injured will be provided Rs 50,000.

As per eyewitnesses, two AC III Tier coaches of the train toppled over while four other coaches jumped the tracks because of this derailment.

The train had departed the Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi at 7.40 am on Wednesday for its nearly 33-hour journey to Kamakhya in Assam.
