Woman Member of Child Welfare Committee Murdered in Berhampur

Berhampur: Soudamini Rath, a woman member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Ganjam district was allegedly thrashed to death near her residence at Nilakantha Nagar under Gosaninuagaon police station limits of Berhampur on Wednesday night.

Soudamini was a social worker involved in the rehabilitation of children affected by AIDS.

Saudamini faced the attack just after her return to Berhampur after attending a three-day workshop in Bhubaneswar. While she was speaking to someone on the phone, she was attacked by an unidentified miscreant from behind. He gave a lethal blow to her head and also thrashed her to death on the spot.

Police recovered Soudamini’s body and sent it for postmortem. The reason behind this brutal murder is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the police have detained the Soudamini’s driver for interrogation.
