12-Yr-Old Tribal Girl Beaten to Death for Marigold Theft in Mayurbhanj Dist

Baripada: A 12-year-old tribal girl was allegedly beaten to death and then hanged over the alleged theft of a marigold plant in the Udala block of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Wednesday night. The parents of this minor girl from Bhaluhuruda village found her hanging at their neighbour’s house. This girl was earlier studying in Bhubaneswar.

Sita Hansda of Bhaluhuruda village had left her daughter at the neighbour’s place and gone to Bhubaneswar to get the girl’s certificate so that she could study in Udala.

On Wednesday evening, Sita received a call from her neighbour that her daughter had stolen a marigold plant from the backyard. After returning home, when Sita and her husband went to their neighbour’s place to enquire about their daughter, they found her hanging.

The body of the girl reportedly bore injury marks. Police are yet to declare the exact reason behind her death.

Her parents alleged that their daughter was thrashed mercilessly to death and then hung by their neighbour, who suspected her of having stolen a marigold plant.

Police are investigating the incident.
