4 Maoists Killed in Encounter in Maharashtra, Carried Reward of Rs 36 Lakh

Mumbai: Four Maoists, having a collective reward of Rs 36 lakh on their heads, were killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Tuesday morning.

Security forces had started an anti-naxal operation on Monday afternoon following information that some Maoists from Telangana had entered the Gadchiroli region by crossing the Pranhita river with an aim to carry out violent activities ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Teams of C-60, a specialised combat unit of the Gadchiroli police, and the Central Reserve Police Force’s Quick Action team started an operation to nab these Maoists. While one of the C-60 unit teams was conducting a search on Tuesday morning in the Kolamarka mountains near Repanpalli, the Maoists fired at them which led to an exchange of fire.

Later on the firing stopped as the ultras preferred to escape from the spot. When the area was searched, the bodies of four Naxalites were located along with arms and ammunition. The arms seized from the spot included an AK-47 rifle.
