55 Chinese Sailors Die as China’s Submarine Gets Stuck in Trap Set for Foreign Ships

Over 55 Chinese sailors are reported to have died when their nuclear submarine was stuck in a trap designed by Chinese Navy for foreign vessels in the Yellow Sea, reported the Mirror.

According to an UK intelligence report, the Chinese submarine collided with a chain and anchor obstacle used by the Chinese Navy to trap US and allied submarines. This damaged submarine’s oxygen systems. The deceased included a captain of the Chinese PLA Navy submarine ‘093-417’ and 21 other officers.

China has officially denied the occurrence of the incident and declined international assistance for the stranded submarine.

The UK intelligence report claims this incident occurred on August 21, during a mission of the submarine in the Yellow Sea, resulting in the loss of 55 crew members, including 22 officers, 7 officer cadets, 9 petty officers, and 17 sailors.

They died due to hypoxia.
