7 Cops Suspended in Koraput Dist for Helping Out Ganja Smugglers

Koraput: Seven police personnel were suspended by the Koraput Superintendent of Police (SP) on charges of dereliction of duty. They were suspended for allegedly releasing some persons and vehicles involved in ganja (marijuana) smuggling.

The suspended policemen include three Sub-Inspectors, two constables and two home guards.

On Monday night, a joint team of Machhkund and Lamtaput police intercepted a truck allegedly involved in ganja smuggling. But the police personnel on duty did not arrest the criminals or seize the vehicle. They were let go by the concerned policemen.  When the matter came to the notice of the senior district police officials, action was initiated against the erring cops.

An investigation is still underway.
