Anwarul Haq Kakar Sworn in as Pakistan’s Caretaker PM

Islamabad: Anwarul Haq Kakar has been sworn in as Pakistan’s new caretaker prime minister, tasked with leading a neutral administration during the country’s financial challenges and upcoming general elections.

Kakar is a 52-year-old first-time Senator from Balochistan. He hails from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), known for its alignment with the country’s influential establishment.

Before assuming the role, Kakar resigned from the Senate and the BAP to demonstrate his commitment to impartiality as the caretaker premier.

The selection of Kakar was the result of consultations between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Leader of the Opposition, Raja Riaz Ahmad.

Sharif expressed confidence in Kakar’s ability to ensure fair elections, emphasizing that the choice was made through a constitutional process and highlighting Kakar’s qualifications as an educated and patriotic individual.

Kakar’s appointment is seen as a positive step by all parties, as he is seen as a neutral figure who can help to ensure free and fair elections in Pakistan.
