BBSR’s Unit-II Market Building Closed Indefinitely Due to Shopkeepers’ Stir

Bhubaneswar: Due to the agitation of shopkeepers, the Unit-II Market Building in Bhubaneswar has been closed for an indefinite period. The agitating shopkeepers are demanding the eviction of makeshift stalls from the market building area.

The Central Market Traders’ Association closed the Unit-II Market Building on Monday as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) didn’t evict the makeshift shops from their area. Around 165 traders operating from permanent shops in the market building closed their shops and staged a dharna on the Market Building premises.

They have threatened to hold protest demonstration in front of the residences of city Mayor Sulochana Das and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange over the issue.

The shopkeepers of permanent shops have alleged that they are facing loss of business and other problems due to the presence of hundreds of makeshift stalls at the shopping complex.
