Bikes, Autos Not Allowed on India’s Longest Sea Bridge in Mumbai, Top Speed 100 kmph

Mumbai: India’s longest sea bridge in Mumbai to be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on January 12 has a maximum speed limit for four-wheelers at 100 kmph. But heavy vehicles, bikes, autorickshaws and tractors will not be allowed on this sea bridge.

This Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is a 21.8-kilometre long bridge connecting Sewri in Mumbai and Nhava Sheva area in Raigad district in Maharashtra. It will reduce the time of the journey from the current two hours to around 15-20 minutes.

This sea bridge is named Atal Setu, in memory of the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The MTHL will be India’s first sea bridge to have an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system, allowing vehicles to pass through toll booths at speeds of up to 100 kmph without stopping.

The MTHL is of six lane. Its 16.50 kilometres is over the sea and 5.50 kilometres on land.

The MTHL has been built at a cost of approximately Rs 18,000 crore.

he MTHL is strategically designed to connect with the arterial Mumbai Pune Expressway, further enhancing connectivity between the state’s two largest cities.
