BJP Drops WFI Chief MP Brij Bhushan Singh, Fields His Son from UP’s Kaiserganj

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday dropped the sitting MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, whose image has been tainted due to allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers, and fielded his son Karan Bhushan Singh as its candidate from Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat.

The BJP also named Dinesh Pratap Singh as its candidate from Rae Bareli seat, where Congress leader Sonia Gandhi won in 2019.

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan is  a six-time MP. He is booked on a complaint of sexual harassment by six women wrestlers.

On June 15, 2023, Delhi Police filed a charge sheet in the case against Singh under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
