BMC Plans Beggar Free Bhubaneswar Ahead of Festive Season

Bhubaneswar: At a meeting chaired by its commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to make the city beggars-free ahead of the festive season.

As per the decision of the BMC, beggars will no longer be allowed to seek alms along roadsides or near temples in Bhubaneswar. The civic body will use three dedicated squads to enforce this.

These squads will patrol in their areas of jurisdiction to ensure that there is no begging activity near places of worship during the festival season.

Beggars found by the squads will be sheltered in five rehabilitation centers managed by the BMC at Rang Bazar, Andharua, PWD Colony, Dakkua, and Niladri Vihar. Each of these centers can accommodate up to 100 beggars.
