Boxer-Politician Vijender Singh Joins BJP Leaving Behind Congress

New Delhi: International boxer turned politician Vijender Singh joined the BJP on Wednesday ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

He joined the BJP in New Delhi in the presence of BJP’s National General Secretary Vinod Tawde.

The 38-year-old Olympic medalist contested the 2019 polls as a Congress candidate from the South Delhi constituency. He lost to the incumbent BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.

Vijender won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming the first Indian boxer to get a medal in the Olympics. He won gold at the 2010 Asian Games.

He also got a bronze at the 2009 World Championships and the 2010 Commonwealth Games, as well as silver at the 2006 and 2014 Commonwealth Games.
