Communal Animosity: 14 Haryana Villages Start “Boycott Muslims” Move

New Delhi: As many as 14 villages in three districts of Haryana have written to the police and administration, declaring their decision to boycott the Muslim community.

These villages are located in Mahendragarh, Jhajjar, and Rewari districts of Haryana. They came up with this proclamation following communal clashes on July 31, claiming six lives including two home guards and a Muslim cleric, and causing significant damage to public and private properties in several districts of Haryana.

The letter, written by the Hindu community of these villages, appeals to people of their areas to deny houses, shops and establishments to the Muslim community on rent. They are also not allowing Muslim street vendors to enter entry into the villages.

A CPI delegation that included two MPs said the letter “exposes the bitter reality of organised discrimination against minorities under BJP rule”.

The CPI on Sunday flagged a letter written in what resembles the official letterhead of a panchayat sarpanch in Haryana asking authorities not to allow “Muslims or miscreants to do any business or hawking activity in the panchayat area”.
