Cyclonic Circulation Formed, Heavy Rains Likely in Odisha in Next 5 Days

Bhubaneswar: Many areas in Odisha are expected to experience heavy rainfall during the next five days because of  a cyclonic circulation that lies over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its mid-day bulletin on Thursday.

Heavy rainfall warning for the next five days as follows:

Day 1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 16.08.24)

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nawarngpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Day 2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 16.08.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 17.08.24.)

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.

Day 3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 17.08.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 18.08.24.)

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.

Day 4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 18.08.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 19.08.24.)

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Bargarh.

Day 5: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 19.08.24 to 0830 Hrs IST of 20.08.24.)

Yellow Warning (Be updated) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur.
