Daughter Marries Dalit Man, Couple & Sons Attempt Suicide in Gujarat, 2 Dead

Ahmedabad: Displeased over their daughter’s love marriage, a couple and their two sons allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison in the Dholka town of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad district.

The man and one of his sons died, while others are fighting for life.

According to police sources, the family took this drastic decision on Tuesday night. His daughter married a Dalit man of her choice around a year back.

The family thought it to be a disgrace. So, Kiran Rathod (52), his wife Neetaben (50) and their two sons Harsh (24) and Harshil (19) from Dholka town, allegedly consumed poison to end their lives on Tuesday night.

The man and his elder son died, while his wife and younger son survived and were undergoing treatment.

Police have registered an FIR against 18 people, including the husband and in-laws of Rathod’s daughter, on charges of abetment of suicide.
