Diesel Cars to Cost More, Gadkari Proposes 10% GST Hike on Them

New Delhi: The price of diesel cars may rise in the coming days. The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, while addressing a convention in New Delhi on Tuesday, proposed a 10% GST on diesel cars.

Warning car manufacturers, the union minister said that it would become “difficult to sell” diesel vehicles after the tax increase, reported NDTV.

“Say bye to diesel soon, otherwise we will increase so much tax that it will become difficult for you to sell these vehicles,” Gadkari said.

According to Gadkari, an additional 10% tax will be levied for pollution on diesel cars and he is expected to submit this proposal to the finance minister on Tuesday.

This approach of the government is being seen as an effort to reduce diesel vehicles on Indian roads to promote use of more electric vehicles.  on Indian roads.

Gadkari’s statement led to a fall in the share prices of Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra and Ashok Leyland between 2.5% and 4%.
