Drug Trafficker Using Pakoda, Kebab, Biryani as Code Arrested With Rs 11 lakh Worth Brown Sugar

Bhubaneswar: A drug trafficker Sambhunath Barik (31) was caught him red-handed on Tuesday by the Special Crime Unit (SCU) personnel from the Khandagiri area. He was arrested with 110 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 11 lakh. He has been on the run since 2021.

Interestingly he was using names of popular fast food items for his drug trafficking. The sleuths tracking him spotted him asking for half packet of pakodas from a truck driver.

Interrogation of Barik after arrest revealed that he was using codes like Kebab full plate Rs 200, pakoda half-a-plate Rs 100, special leg biryani Rs 250, chicken masala 150 and fish 200 for drug trafficking and receiving consignments.

Investigation revealed that Barik was receiving brown sugar from drug dealers in Digha area of West Bengal.

Barik’s wife Pinky Das and associate Biswaranjan Roul were arrested by the Saheed Nagar police on July 14, 2021 and police had seized Rs 34.78 lakh cash from them. Since then Barik was absconding.

The SCU is planning to take Barik on a two-day remand for interrogation after producing him in court on Wednesday.
