EC Issues Show-Cause Notice to Atishi Over Claim That BJP Tried To ‘Poach’ Her

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Friday issued a show-cause notice to prominent AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi, asking her to back with facts her statement that the BJP approached her to join the party.

Atishi’s claims prompted the BJP to lodge a complaint with the commission, disputing her statement.

In the notice, the Election Commission emphasized the influence that statements from political leaders can have on public opinion, particularly during election campaigns. They stressed the importance of statements being based on factual evidence, especially considering Atishi’s position as both a government official and a leader of a national party.

Atishi has been given until Monday noon to provide a detailed response to the notice, addressing each point raised by the commission.
