Elephant Dies as Crude Bomb Explodes In Its Mouth in Bharatpur Forest

Bhubaneswar: A wild elephant was killed when a crude bomb it chewed up exploded in its mouth inside the Bharatpur forest on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

According to reports, around a fortnight back, the wild pachyderm had by mistake tried to eat the crude bomb, suspected to be used by poachers for hunting wild boars.

The bomb blasted in the mouth of the elephant shattering its jaw and severing its tongue.

Forest officials spotted the injured tusker on Monday. The injured animal was treated by veterinary experts from Nandankanan Zoological Park and OUAT. But the condition of the injured animal deteriorated and it succumbed to injuries.

This ill-fated wild elephant was believed to have come from the Khurda forest area. The Forest department has initiated an investigation to track down the persons linked to the death of the elephant.
