Shoes, Smoke & Slogans: Eyewitnesses Detail Shocking Lok Sabha Breach

New Delhi: In a startling incident on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, two individuals breached security and jumped into the Lok Sabha, disrupting ongoing proceedings. Members of Parliament and security personnel acted swiftly, apprehending the intruders and handing them over to the Delhi Police for investigation.

One of the apprehended individuals was found carrying an Aadhaar card with a Lucknow address, according to BSP MP Ram Shiromani Verma. The incident also involved the release of yellow smoke within the Parliament as one of the intruders detonated a canister. MPs displayed remarkable courage, subduing the individuals and ensuring their safe handover to security personnel. Notably, Verma reported that the intruders were chanting “tanashahi nahi chalegi” (down with dictatorship) and had concealed a canister and a paper in their shoes.

MP Hanuman Beniwal, who was among the first to react and detain the intruders, detailed how yellow smoke engulfed the area after one individual pulled an object from his shoe. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla assured a comprehensive investigation, confirming the recovery of materials by the police and emphasizing that the released smoke posed no immediate threat.

This incident has sparked significant concerns about parliamentary security, especially considering its occurrence on a highly sensitive date. Investigations are underway to determine the motives and backgrounds of the individuals involved.
