Former IAS VK Pandian Joins BJD, Odisha Politics Takes New Turn

Bhubaneswar: Odisha politics took a new turn on Monday as former IAS officer VK Pandian today joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Pandian joined the political fold at a special meeting of the BJD held at Naveen Niwas, residence of BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar on Monday morning. Several senior leaders of the party were present during the occasion.

“VK Pandian joined the BJD with the blessings of party chief Naveen Patnaik. Pandian was advised by Patnaik to work for the state and the party like he worked with Patnaik for the last 13-14 years. Patnaik exuded hope that Pandian will bring success to the party like he did for the administration. Patnaik also said that Pandian’s administrative and political experience will be a great asset for the party,” said senior BJD leader Pinaki Misra.

Pandian served as the Private Secretary (5T) to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the past and after taking voluntary retirement from civil services, he is currently serving as Chairman, 5T (Transformational Initiatives) and Nabin Odisha.

The Central Government accepted his voluntary retirement application on October 23.

Pandian joining the BJD ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha bears much significance. He has already visited all constituencies in the state to review developmental projects.
