Four Jail Employees Including Deputy Jailer Booked for Murder of Rape Accused in UP Jail

Lucknow: Four employees of the Sitapur jail in Uttara Pradesh employees were booked for murder of a gang-rape accused. These prison staff included Sitapur deputy jailer Vijay Lakshmi Gautam, jail pharmacist Shailendra Verma, jail staff Sudhanshu Srivastava and an unidentified jail employee. They were booked for the murder of an undertrial in April 2023.

Following a district court order, an FIR was lodged against these four on Sunday.

The deceased was Babloo Singh (28), an accused in a gang-rape case, who was an under-trial prisoner in the Sitapur jail.

The victim’s mother, Seema Singh had moved court, accusing that her son died because of the torture and negligence by the jail officials.

In her complaint, Seema Singh, alleged that the accused jail officials extorted money from her son and when he refused, he was subjected to brutal torture. Babloo was sent to the district hospital on April 14 where he died during the treatment.

Following his death, some prison inmates started protesting and refused to take food, alleging negligence in his treatment.
