Four Poachers Arrested in Berhampur, Deer Horns & Guns Seized

Berhampur: Four poachers were arrested by police from the Golanthara area on the outskirts of Berhampur on Friday. Two deer horns, two guns and ammunition were seized from the possession of the arrested men.

The arrested persons were identified as Purna Gouda (35) alias Chian of Singabadi, Sankar Pradhan(55)of Medinipur, Abhi alias Bhalia Mallick(40) of Betajhari and Brudaban Mallick (45), Makar Mallick of Kanheiput in Ganjam district.

Two single barrel guns, 125 live cartridges, 200 empty cartridges, 10 kg Lead splinter balls, 250-gram small lead splinter balls, Gun powder, lead bar used in making the splinter balls, equipment used to assemble cartridges, two deer horns with skulls, were seized from the poachers.

Based on a reliable tip regarding the movement of Chian in the Tamana Reserve Forest armed with weapons, a team from Golanthara police station raided the area and apprehended Chian Gouda along with his associates.

Accused Chian and Shankar Pradhan have several cases pending against them in Digapahandi and Golanthara police stations.
