Govt Introduces Biannual Board Exams, Students to Study 2 Languages in Class 11 and 12

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has announced major changes to the education system in India, in line with the New Education Policy (NEP). The changes will be implemented in the 2024 academic session.

One of the most significant changes is the introduction of board exams twice a year. This will allow students to retain their best score, reducing the pressure associated with high-stakes exams.

Further, under the revised guidelines, students in Class 11 and 12 will be required to learn two languages, with at least one being of Indian origin.

The new evaluation approach will also focus on assessing comprehension and skill mastery, rather than rote memorization. This will make board exams more meaningful and relevant to students’ learning.

In addition, students will have greater flexibility in selecting subjects during the 11th and 12th grades. They will no longer be segregated into traditional arts, science, and commerce streams. Instead, they will be able to choose subjects across disciplines, based on their individual interests and strengths.

Educational boards will also be equipped to administer “on-demand” exams. This means that students will be able to take exams whenever they feel ready, rather than having to wait for a specific exam date.

The new education framework also emphasizes the importance of using interactive learning methods. This means that students will spend less time passively reading textbooks and more time engaging in hands-on activities and projects.
