Helicopter Crashes in Kedarnath While Being Airlifted By MI-17 Chopper

Dehradun: A faulty helicopter crashed to the ground from midair while it was being airlifted from Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath to Gauchar by an MI-17 chopper on Saturday morning. According to reports, the helicopter fell to the ground as the towing rope snapped.

The crashed helicopter was being operated by a private company. It crashed near the Mandakini River in Lincholi. No one was injured in the accident.

The defective helicopter was earlier ferrying passengers to Kedarnath temple.

The number of pilgrims to Kedarnath has dropped sharply since July 31 due to extensive damage caused by heavy rain to the trek route to the Himalayan shrine.

Though the trek route was mostly stalled in August, the pilgrims arrived at the Kedarnath temple on helicopters.
