SA vs IND, 1st ODI: Arshdeep Takes 5-fer, Avesh Claims 4 To Bundle Out South Africa For 116

Johannesburg: In a stellar bowling display, Arshdeep Singh claimed five wickets, Avesh Khan scalped four and Kuldeep Yadav took one, as South Africa were bundled out for a mere 116 runs in 27.3 overs during the first ODI at Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday. Andile Phehlukwayo (33 runs off 49 balls) and Tony de Zorzi (28 off 22) emerged as the top scorers for the hosts.

The left-arm seamer, Arshdeep, set the tone early by dismissing Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen for ducks in his very first over. He continued the onslaught, claiming the crucial wicket of the dangerous Tony de Zorzi when he was on 28.

Avesh Khan, initially unlucky as Ruturaj Gaikwad dropped a straightforward chance at second slip in his first over, redeemed himself by removing Proteas captain Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder in successive deliveries.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss on a used Wanderers pitch, South Africa faced a tough challenge against the disciplined Indian bowling attack.

As the focus shifts to India’s batting, it is to be seen whether it will be a walk In the park or if South Africa can pose challenges to prevent India from chasing down the target and securing a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.
