BCCI Invites IPL Owners For Informal Meet In Ahmedabad On April 16

New Delhi; The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited owners of all ten IPL franchises for an informal meeting in Ahmedabad on April 16th. This gathering coincides with the Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Titans match at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

While no official agenda has been set, discussions are expected to centre around the upcoming mega-auction in 2024, specifically regarding player retention policies and a potential increase in the auction purse, currently capped at ₹100 crore. BCCI heavyweights like Secretary Jay Shah, President Roger Binny, and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal are all confirmed to attend the meeting.

Presently, franchises are permitted to retain a maximum of four players before each mega-auction, held every three years. The last such auction occurred in 2022, paving the way for the next one ahead of the 2025 IPL season.

The ongoing two-month IPL commenced on March 22 and will conclude with the final match in Chennai on May 26. Notably, Ahmedabad will host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator on May 21 and May 22, respectively, while Chennai will be the venue for the Qualifier on May 24.

Initially, the BCCI unveiled the schedule for the first two weeks of IPL matches before releasing the complete lineup last week. This decision followed the announcement of the general election dates, which will coincide with the league, commencing on April 19 in seven phases.
