Indian Navy’s Warship Mahendragiri launched, Named After Odisha’s famous Mountain Peak

Mumbai: The Indian Navy’s warship Mahendragiri was launched in Mumbai on Friday.

This warship developed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), is named after the famous mountain peak of Eastern Ghats in the Gajapati district of Odisha.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was the chief guest of the occasion. His wife Sudesh launched the warship.

Mahendragiri is the seventh ship of the Project 17A frigates series. It boasts of enhanced stealth features, advanced weapons, sensors, and platform management systems. It is the last of the seven warships of the Nilgiri-class stealth frigates built under Project 17A.

“I am sure that Mahendragiri, once commissioned, will proudly fly the Tiranga (national tricolour) across the oceans, as an ambassador of India’s maritime might,” Vice President Dhankhar said.
