IPL 2024 Auction: Dubai To Host Mega Event On December 19th

Mumbai: The auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to take place on December 19, 2023, in Dubai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Friday. The board has set a player retention deadline of November 26 for the franchises.

Each franchise is allotted a purse of INR 100 crore (approximately USD 12.02 million) to build their squad, which marks a 5 crore increase from the previous season’s purse of 95 crores. Among the teams, the Punjab Kings hold the largest purse with INR 12.20 crore, while the Mumbai Indians have the lowest with only 0.05 crore.

The remaining franchises have the following budgets:
– SunRisers Hyderabad: INR 6.55 crore (USD 0.79 million)
– Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals: INR 4.45 crore (USD 0.54 million) each
– Lucknow Super Giants: INR 3.55 crore (USD 0.43 million)
– Rajasthan Royals: INR 3.35 crore (USD 0.40 million)
– Royal Challengers Bangalore: INR 1.75 crore (USD 0.21 million)
– Kolkata Knight Riders: INR 1.65 crore (USD 0.2 million)
– Chennai Super Kings: INR 1.5 crore (USD 0.18 million)

In other news, the Mumbai Indians have acquired West Indian all-rounder Romario Shepherd from the Lucknow Super Giants. Shepherd, who has played only 4 IPL matches, was traded for his existing fee of INR 50 lakhs. The 28-year-old boasts a T20I career with 31 appearances, 301 runs at an average of 37.6, and a strike rate of 153.6. He has also taken 31 wickets in T20Is with an economy rate of 10.38 and best bowling figures of 4/31.
