JMM’s 24-Hr Bandh in Mayurbhanj District

Baripada: Normal life was disrupted in the Mayurbhanj district on Thursday because of a 24-hour bandh call given by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for a list of 15 demands.

The JMM supporters blocked roads, held demonstrations and picketed in different parts of the district from early morning. Vehicular traffic has stalled stranding hundreds of vehicles on the National and state highways passing through the district. The bandh supporters stopped the Tata-Badampahar MEMU local train near Bhalad in the Rairangpur subdivision.

All educational institutions, and business establishments remained closed.

The demands of the JMM include the inclusion of the Mundari language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, make Ho and Mundari the second language of Odisha, regularisation of jobs of private teachers, and recognition of the Sarna religion.
