Kedarnath Trek Route Reopened After 15-Day Closure Following Repair

Dehradun: The heavily damaged trek route to Kedarnath hill shrine was repaired and reopened for pilgrims after a 15-day closure.

This trek route was heavily damaged by landslides caused by heavy rain on July 31 night.

The 19-km long trek route was blocked at 29 places by landslide debris. Around 260 labourers worked round the clock to repair and reopen the route for pilgrims.

The route has been mostly repaired. But at a few spots, security personnel are helping the pilgrims cross the road.

Landslides had stranded thousands of pilgrims to Kedarnath. Aided by the Indian Air Force and private helicopters, more than 11,000 pilgrims stranded at places along the route were evacuated to safety by SDRF, NDRF and police personnel. This rescue operation continued for about a week.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally monitored the entire rescue operation.
