Kerala High Court Stays Guv’s Nomination of 4 Students to Kerala Univ Senate

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala High Court imposed a temporary stay on the nomination of four students to the Kerala University senate by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.

The Governor, who is the Chancellor of universities in Kerala, nominated these students to the senate. The High Court has issued a notice to the four students nominated by the Governor.

The Kerala High Court intervened in the matter, when two students, originally recommended by the university for their achievements, filed petitions claiming that they were overlooked by the Governor in favour of less qualified nominees.

According to the petitioners, the nominations made by the Governor did not adhere to the university norms, which require that nominees must have excelled in their respective fields. They alleged that the Governor used his power to nominate students to the Senate arbitrarily.

Earlier activists of the SFI had protested against the Governor’s nominations by waving black flags at his vehicle.
