Kota Coaching Centers Ordered to Stop Tests Following 2 Student Suicides in 6 Hrs

Kota: Kota district administration in Rajasthan ordered all coaching institutes to stop conducting routine tests of students preparing for NEET, JEE, and other competitive exams for the next two months. This decision was taken as the suicide rate among students is on the rise in Kota.

Last year 15 students committed suicide in Kota. But this year, till now, 23 students preparing for competitive exams have ended their lives. This is the highest suicide rate Kota has ever experienced.

On Sunday, Avishkar Shambaji Kasle (17) jumped off the sixth floor of his coaching institute’s building in Jawahar Nagar at around 3.15 pm, minutes after walking out of a room after taking a mock NEET test.

On the same day, another student, Adarsh Raj (18), hanged himself in his rented flat at around 7 pm.

Both of them scored low marks in the routine tests at their respective coaching centers.

Following these suicicides, Kota district collector OP Bunkar, on Sunday night directed the coaching institutes to stop holding routine tests for the next two months. As per the collector, this decision was taken to provide “mental support” to students.

Every year over two lakh students get admitted to coaching centers in Kota to prepare for competitive exams like JEE and NEET.
