New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday paused the demolition drive initiated by railway authorities to remove illegal settlements near the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura.
The apex court ordered for maintenance of the status quo for a period of 10 days. A bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose, Sanjay Kumar and SVN Bhatti issued notice to the Centre and others in relation to the matter.
The lawyer of the petitioner Yakub Shah told the Supreme Court that around 100 houses have been demolished by bulldozers.
As per the petitioner, 70-80 houses are left. The petitioner alleged that the demolition drive was taken up on a day when Uttar Pradesh courts were closed.
