95 Bihar Children Rescued in UP, 5 Clerics Detained

Lucknow: The anti-trafficking unit of the Uttar Pradesh Child Rights Protection Commission rescued 95 children from Bihar by intercepting a bus in Ayodhya on Friday. Five clerics involved in the illegal trafficking of these children were apprehended.

All the rescued children aged between nine and 12 years were sheltered in a boarding house in Lucknow.

The police are interrogating the detained clerics to unearth details about the entire racket.

According to the Commission, they acted on the information provided by the Mission Mukti Foundation New Delhi, to rescue these children from Bihar.

These children were being taken illegally from Araria and Purnia in Bihar to Deoband in Saharanpur of UP.

Five clerics were accompanying these children. The children did not know where they were being taken. Child Welfare Committee members said that the clerics do not even have the names of the children’s parents and the consent letters. Many children were orphans.
